Discover Salento Latino — Colombian Traditional Food

If you're craving an authentic taste of Colombian cuisine in the heart of Amsterdam, Salento Latino - Colombian Traditional Food offers a welcoming experience that transports you straight to the streets of Colombia. Located at Kastelenstraat 172, 1082 EJ Amsterdam, this cozy restaurant serves up the rich flavors and vibrant dishes that define Colombia’s culinary heritage.

Salento Latino's menu is a delightful journey through Colombia’s diverse regions. Whether you're familiar with the country’s food or experiencing it for the first time, each dish is prepared with the freshest ingredients and traditional techniques, offering an unforgettable taste of Colombian culture. One standout feature of the menu is the hearty and savory arepas-cornmeal cakes that are a staple in Colombian cuisine. They come in different varieties, stuffed with everything from melted cheese to shredded beef or chicken, making them the perfect choice for a comforting meal or a satisfying snack.

Another must-try is the bandeja paisa, a traditional dish from the mountainous region of Antioquia. This plate is a feast for the senses, with grilled steak, chicharrón (crispy pork belly), rice, beans, plantains, avocado, and a fried egg, all served together in one generous portion. It’s a true Colombian classic that’s sure to fill you up while offering a variety of flavors and textures. For those looking for something lighter, sancocho de gallina, a comforting chicken stew with potatoes and corn, is the perfect option to enjoy a warm, homestyle meal.

The experience at Salento Latino goes beyond just the food. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and inviting, with rustic decor and vibrant colors that reflect the lively culture of Colombia. Whether you're dining in with friends or grabbing a quick bite, the friendly staff makes sure that your visit is enjoyable. There’s a genuine sense of pride in the food they serve, and it’s clear they are dedicated to delivering an authentic Colombian experience.

What makes this place truly stand out is its commitment to maintaining authenticity. Salento Latino sources its ingredients with care, ensuring that every dish is as close to the traditional recipes as possible. This attention to detail is evident in the taste of each plate. For instance, the empanadas, crispy and golden, are stuffed with seasoned meat and potatoes, served with a side of tangy salsa to balance out the richness. It's these little touches that make each bite feel like a homemade treasure.

The drinks menu also showcases the vibrant spirit of Colombia. From the refreshing aguapanela-a sweet drink made from sugarcane to traditional Colombian beers, there’s something to complement every meal. And for dessert lovers, tres leches cake is a must-try. This sweet, spongy cake soaked in three types of milk is the perfect end to a delicious Colombian feast.

While Salento Latino is primarily known for its food, the restaurant also focuses on creating a connection between the customers and Colombian culture. Events showcasing Colombian music, dance, and traditions are held throughout the year, offering a full cultural experience alongside a great meal. This makes it more than just a place to eat, but rather a space to immerse yourself in the Colombian way of life.

  • The atmosphere of this place is amazing! We arrived around 6 PM and were the first customers, which made the experience even more special. The Christmas decorations are abundant, and they truly bring out the holiday vibe—perfect for the season. The Colombian food is absolutely delicious, bursting with authentic flavors. To top it all off, the waiter was incredibly accommodating and attentive, which made our visit even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!

  • The restaurant was very nice experience, the décor was very cosy, and the food was delicious. The service was very nice and the staff were very friendly. My children loved the experience and I think we will be back one day. The only reason I take away one star is due to the prices, but besides this, everything was perfect.

  • A Taste of Colombia at Salento Latino in Amsterdam Last night, a friend and I enjoyed a fantastic evening at Salento Latino in Buitenveldert. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome and relaxed, friendly service. The atmosphere was lively and inviting — definitely a good thing we reserved ahead, as the restaurant was bustling. The menu features authentic Colombian dishes, and every bite was a treat. I  loved the Tequeños and the chicken-filled empanada — crispy, flavorful, and paired beautifully with fresh chimichurri. My grilled chicken main course was cooked to perfection, and the Tres Leches cake for dessert was moist, rich, and utterly delicious. Portions are generous, prices are very reasonable, and parking is easy on the street. All in all, a wonderful night of great food, friendly faces, and vibrant ambiance. I will definitely have dinner there again . Highly recommended!

  • Great food and very nice atmosphere. The meat platter has a very good price to quantity ratio also. The Tequeños and Buñuelos are a must try!

  • I'm Colombian, and this place transported me right back to my country. The food is delicious, plentiful, inexpensive, and has truly traditional flavors. Everything is ordered through an app, which makes things much faster, but the servers who bring the food are very friendly, and they all speak Spanish. If you're Colombian and you're missing home a little, I 100% recommend this place.
